Sunday, March 2, 2025 will be held the traditional Oscars at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. If he takes a look at his television set that evening, Donald Trump may well be grumpy. And for good reason, The Apprenticea film that he tried to censor and which portrays his economic ascent in a very unflattering way, obtained two nominations.
Two nominations for The Apprentice
The actors Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong will thus be represented in the categories Best actor and best supporting male role. Cited by our colleagues from Business InsiderGabriel Sherman, the author who wrote the script for the film, is delighted:
Sebastian and Jeremy have taken determining risks for their careers by making this film. And they perfectly succeeded in their roles. It is as satisfactory as the Academy defends great art at a time when culture seems to be cooled by the new political climate.
This production retraces the beginnings of the businessman and his meeting with his sulphurous mentor, Roy Cohn. Lawyer, the latter has become far -right political advisor, he is known for his aggressive methods based on intimidation, concealment and lies. A creed that later smiled at Donald Trump when he entered politics. The feature film also includes scenes that are clearly not tender towards the former president: erectile dysfunction, baldness, or even infidelity …
Donald Trump wanted to censor the film
This is not the first time that the Trump clan has been attacking this production. Shortly before his release, the communications director of his campaign, Steven Cheung, had estimated that his release “Was an electoral interference on the part of the Hollywood elites just before November”.
Not chewing his words, he added that The Apprentice is a “Pure malicious defamation” Who “Do not even deserve a place in the DVD section directly available in a good business baccalaureate from a film store at reduced prices which will soon close” and which “should rather be thrown into a garbage dumpster”.
The legal team of the new president had also directly threatened the filmmakers in May 2024: “If you do not immediately stop any distribution and marketing of this defamatory farce, we will be forced to continue all appropriate legal appeals”.
