Why is the tricolor nugget Welcome to the Jungle carrying out a wave of layoffs?

Welcome to the Jungle, a startup specializing in recruitment and job search, is carrying out a slight restructuring at the start of the year. Objective: return to profitability while its revenues are stagnating in France.

No profitability yet

The company stands out from traditional employment platforms thanks to an attractive connection service between recruiters and candidates. All of its offers are enhanced by online media, with editorial content focused on professional issues and the world of work. Founded in 2015, Welcome to the Jungle is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Unfortunately, it does not start under the best auspices.

Because its revenues have stagnated in 2024, confides Antoine-Benjamin Lequertier, co-CEO of the startup, in an interview with Echoes. “ The market was less dynamic than in 2021 and 2022. We experienced a big downturn at the end of 2023 and 2024. And the political context did not help “, he argues. The young company’s losses reached 9.5 million euros in 2023, an improvement compared to the 12.1 million recorded the previous year.

However, it did not manage to reach profitability at the end of 2024 as was initially planned. The deadline has now been postponed to the second half of 2025. It is in this context that Welcome to the Jungle is implementing a voluntary departure plan affecting 35 positions in France, or 10% of the workforce. It is also closing its office in the Czech Republic, where its expansion efforts failed, directly affecting 10 jobs. The startup has 350 employees around the world.

Strategic adjustments

The idea is now to focus on other, more promising markets, such as the United Kingdom and the United States. A mission made easier by the acquisition of Otta last year, the British recruitment firm already having a small presence in Uncle Sam’s Country.

Last October, Welcome to the Jungle also got its hands on Lymia. The latter relies on artificial intelligence (AI) to design an application aimed at helping recruiters identify the most relevant candidates in a few moments. The startup will certainly turn to AI, too, like several companies specializing in human resources in recent months.

Automating the customer journey is in the works, as is reducing the production of videos and articles. If this practice allowed him to make his brand known, it is clear that it is not really profitable. 2025 is therefore full of challenges for Welcome to the Jungle, which is slowly preparing to take them on.

  • Welcome to the Jungle, a startup specializing in recruitment and job search, is reducing its workforce.
  • It targets profitability for the second half of 2025.
  • The company is targeting the United Kingdom and the United States for expansion, and will also use AI to automate the customer journey.
