Enough is enough. After the multiple excesses of its owner, Elon Musk, and faced with the observation of what the social network X (formerly Twitter) has become, a collective called HelloQuitX decided to launch a tool to help users of the platform migrate to other services, such as Mastodon and Bluesky.
Simplify migration
According to our colleagues Echoesthis structure brings together around thirty people, most of them volunteers from organizations such as Quadrature du net, the SNJ-CGT and the Human Rights League.
🔥🔥🔥 Our app is released! Move from X with your communities in less than 5 minutes and stop having to endure the environment #toXic of #X

At the origin of this initiative, we find the mathematician at the CNRS, David Chavalarias. His idea is to respond to what constitutes one of the main obstacles to the departure of X. He explains to Agence France Presse: “Many users are captive to their audience on X. Some cannot decide to leave, for fear of losing their sources or their audience. »
Faced with this problem, HelloQuitteX has therefore launched an application that simplifies migration. Users are thus able to find their subscriptions and subscribers on other social networks.
According to Le Figaro, 17,000 users have registered on the platform. Taking into account their contacts on X, this represents approximately 23 million possible connections. Quoted by our colleague, Benjamin Sonntag, one of the spokespersons for HelloQuitteX, and an engineer by trade, adds:
From this evening (Monday evening), we will offer those who have registered to automatically follow all the people they followed on X on their new Bluesky and/or Mastodon accounts.
We do not have local figures for France, but, according to our records, the Bluesky platform is approaching 28.5 million users globally and has seen an influx of newcomers in recent days.
An international movement
In France, several institutions have already announced their departure from X in recent months. This is the case of Mairie de Paris, the Pasteur Institute, but also of major French newspapers such as West France And The World.
Eager to accentuate the movement, HelloQuitteX now wishes to turn internationally. The collective already has volunteer allies in several countries and its site has been translated into several languages, including English, Spanish, German, Arabic and Japanese.
In the meantime, pressure is increasing on X within the European Union. Thus, the European Commission has already launched an investigation against the platform under the DSA and plans to deepen its investigations. The social network is notably accused of manipulating its algorithms, and of failing to fulfill certain obligations regarding disinformation.
