The crooks are not idle. Recently, scams are increasing and you have to be foolproof vigilance so as not to fall into the net of very malicious people. Today, scams are more sophisticated, well executed and more imaginative than ever.
As our colleagues from Clubicthousands of people receive SMS from their “bank” encouraging them to confirm a payment. We explain how it works to protect you better.
A confirmation of payment which can cost dearly
To bait new victims, the scammers pretend to be a banking establishment in a very clever phishing campaign. Consumers receive an SMS indicating that to confirm their internet payment, they must enter the following code. In theory, anyone will believe that it is a simple error. This is the continuation that can cause problems for the least attentive people.
Indeed, the rest of the SMS explains that “If you are not behind the transaction, contact 09 77 19 75 01”. By calling for this issue, the scam begins since the crook will try by all means to obtain your bank details.
It is easy to be fooled. At first, this SMS has been sent from a completely legitimate 06. If your banking establishment was really questioned, this would not be the case. However, remember that the usurpers can access specific applications and software to modify the number that appears on your phone.
The number indicated in the SMS is already well known and is massively reported by other people. It is therefore essential not to recall this issue. In general, we strongly advise you not to call any unknown number provided in an SMS, to click on any link without prior verification and not to enter a code received by SMS if you have not purchased anything that could justify it. If in doubt, it is better to directly call your bank advisor or go to your customer area yourself.
It is possible to act in reporting the fraudulent SMS via the SIGNAL CONSO, SIGAL SIGNAL, PHISHING Initiative and 33700 SIGNAL application (the SMS and unwanted calls platform).
