2025 will be an interesting year for the Android ecosystem. Indeed, thanks to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, smartphone manufacturers can offer devices whose performance will have nothing to envy of the iPhone. As a reminder, compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite has a 45% more efficient CPU with an energy efficiency gain of 44%, and a GPU whose performance and energy efficiency have been improved by 40%. However, this new component will only be available on the most expensive models. And, above all, this significant computing power will not be essential for all consumers.
This is why there are also mid-range processors. And indeed, rumors are already circulating about another Qualcomm chip called Snapdragon 8s Elite, which would be a more affordable version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite. In a recent article, our colleagues at Android Authority relay a publication from Digital Chat Station, which shares some alleged information on this Qualcomm chip. According to our colleagues, the Snapdragon 8s Elite could have a Cortex-X4 main core clocked at 3.21 GHz, three Cortex-A720 performance cores clocked at 3.01 GHz, two Cortex-A720 efficiency cores clocked at 2 .80 GHz and two additional efficiency cores clocked at 2.02 GHz. The GPU would be an Adreno 825.
An intermediate chip close to high-end?
Snapdragon 8s Elite is said to have a configuration comparable to that of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, last year’s top-end chip. However, lower clock speeds would reduce the overall performance of the new component. The results of the Snapdragon 8s Elite on the benchmarks would thus be lower than those of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. But in any case, with this Snapdragon 8s Elite, Qualcomm should offer performance close to that of the premium models, but on more affordable devices.
Otherwise, the source relayed by Android Authority also indicates that the Snapdragon 8s Elite should be used by the iQOO and Redmi brands. But, as usual, as this information does not come from an official source, caution remains in order.
- After releasing the Snapdragon 8 Elite, Qualcomm is preparing a new chip called Snapdragon 8s Elite
- This would target mid-range smartphones with performance close to that of premium smartphones.
- iQOO and Redmi would be among the brands that will use this component
