Co -founder of one of the most prosperous groups in the world, Bill Gates is today a committed man who notably manages a foundation aimed at improving health care and reducing extreme poverty. The entrepreneur is often questioned about his vision of the world, and this is again what happened during a recent interview he gave Patrick Collison, the CEO of Stripe.

The billionaire notably remembered what frightened him the most when he was young: “ There are, you know, about four or five things that are very frightening, and the only one I really understood and who worried me a lot when I was young was nuclear war. »»
And the manager to add: “Today, I think we would add climate change, bioterrorism/pandemic and maintaining AI control in one form or another. So you know, we now have four footnote notes”. To this already long list, Bill Gates adds social polarization: “The young generation must be very afraid of these things. »»
This is not the first time that the business manager has been quoting these themes. As reminded Business Insiderhe had already tackled them in a blog note published in 2023: “Having a little child makes you think about how we can make sure that the future will be better-politics, health, climate, etc. »»
Far from panicking in the face of the scale of these challenges, it remains optimistic, especially on AI which could make it possible to resolve the shortage of personnel in terms of health or education:
We do not have as many medical experts, you know, or people who can give private mathematics lessons in city centers (…) AI, over time-and people can discuss deadlines- will make access to knowledge essentially free.
Bill Gates criticizes social networks
As a reminder, the entrepreneur got into the habit of taking a stand on the big problems of our time. At the beginning of the month, he had notably pointed out the negative impact of large platforms on children:
I prevented my children from going too much on social networks before they were 14 or 15 years old and I tried to follow what they were doing. And, I think you have to do more in this area. We were a little naive on the impact of these tools.
He also regretted the end of the initiatives to verify facts at Meta:
I fear that this is a problem that the young generation will have to solve. Of course, freedom of expression is something that looks very good, but, leaving these fake news and all these lies that turn on social networks (…) I think it’s a problem which is unresolved for the moment.
