Ferrari’s first electric car is approaching, and the manufacturer does not intend to abandon one of the most iconic aspects of its brand. While the electric motors are relatively quiet, the company should mimic an exhaust sound, like Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N.
A sound to satisfy customers?
A video posted on Instagram by automotive expert Varryx reveals the sound that will emanate from the vehicle. A distinct combustion-like roar can be heard coming from Ferrari’s test car. According to the account owner, the sound is coming from underneath the rear bumper because the exhaust pipes are fake.
The Italian brand therefore keeps its promise. Last year, its CEO Benedetto Vigna assured that his first electric vehicle would not be silent, to keep one of your company’s signatures. Its clientele and fans are big fans of roaring engines, so it’s hard to imagine them raving about a car without any sound. Note that it’s also a question of security the noise allowing pedestrians to warn of the approach of the vehicle.
Ferrari has been working on this technology for several years. Two years ago, she filed a patent for a “ reproduction device for producing a sound that can be associated with an electric motor “. Objective: to amplify the sound of the electric motors at the rear of the vehicle. The system is supposed to be silent when the car is traveling at low speed, then activates when the driver presses the accelerator.
Presentation this year
Ferrari’s first electric vehicle should be presented this year for a price of around $500,000 (around 488,160 euros). On the design side, don’t trust the prototype presented in the videothere is a good chance that the final product will differ greatly. Indeed, many parts of the latter are borrowed from existing Ferrari and Maserati models.
For the moment, Ferrari has not confirmed the body style that its first electric vehicle will adopt. So it could be a crossover like this or a sports car, or even a more traditional supercar.
