Be careful, this exceptional gift from Lidl is just a huge scam

Scammers will stop at nothing to push us into making mistakes. They often play on fear to trick you into acting on impulse. Conversely, an offer that seems particularly attractive should alert you. And this is precisely what happened during this phishing campaign which impersonates Lidl.

The safeonweb site thus presents the example of a fraudulent e-mail. We can read that the customer is rewarded for his loyalty with a “exceptional offer”. In this case, a vacuum cleaner offered by the distribution brand. All you have to do is claim the gift by clicking on a link. As is often the case in such cases, the link refers to a fraudulent portal with the aim, most likely, of recovering personal data or directly money from the targeted Internet users.

How to avoid the worst?

To avoid being fooled, you should adopt good reflexes. Under no circumstances should you click directly on a link in an email or SMS. If in doubt, you can log in directly to your account to find out for yourself. If you accidentally land on one of these fraudulent sites, you should never fill in the fields or give your usernames and passwords. If this is the case, consider changing it without delay.

If the wrong has been committed and you have lost money, you must file a complaint with the Gendarmerie or the National Police depending on your place of residence. Finally, you can report these scam attempts on the site Signal Spam and on the platform Cybermalveillance.gouv.fr. By notifying the authorities, you will strengthen protections and prevent other Internet users from being fooled.

A popular Netflix scam

Unfortunately, these phishing campaigns are becoming more and more common. To cite just one example, we recently told you about this attack where hackers pretended to be Netflix. In 23 countries, including France, Internet users received this message: “NETFLIX: There was a problem processing your payment. To keep your services active, please log in and confirm your details on (followed by a fake address Editor’s note)”.

The idea here again was to collect login credentials, personal information and credit card details from customers who were fooled by this message. To find out more, do not hesitate to reread our previous article here.
