At the end of 2025, James Cameron should once again reign supreme over world cinema with the third part of his saga Avatar: Fire and Ash. The opportunity for us to tell you everything we already know about this film.
When will Avatar 3 be released?
The long-awaited sequel will hit French cinemas on December 17, 2025. Nothing is ever guaranteed, but we can legitimately expect a new hit at the box office, as the first two feature films in the franchise have marked the spirits. James Cameron also promises us a film “long and surprising”. We would have suspected it.
What will be the story of Avatar: Fire and Ash?
For the moment, we do not yet know the official synopsis of the new part. This of course did not prevent James Cameron from teasing the rest of the saga. Speaking about the latest film, in January 2023, he explained:
Hopefully The Way Of Water came to its own conclusion, as I think every movie will, but they’re setting things up because we’re becoming more and more invested in these characters. What is Kiri’s future? What is Lo’ak planning? What decisions will Jake and Neytiri have to make?
And the filmmaker adds: “All of these things are going to continue to drive our story…I thought it made sense for Jim to do the unconventional.” They come together as a family, but now they have to live with the guilt that one might feel as a parent or sibling. Zoe (Saldaña Editor’s note) did a phenomenal job in this scene. How long will this grief torment her? How to overcome this? »
“Courageous choices”
In a more recent interview given to Empirethe director promises some changes to the form: “We could go broke on our own stuff here, and everyone who looks at it will say, ‘Damn, that’s not what I signed up for.’ » But if you don’t make courageous choices, you’re wasting everyone’s time and money. »
As always, the legend of the seventh art announces heavy things: “We’ve doubled the number of shots completed at this point in the game compared to the second movie (and) the movies are about the same length. So that puts us way ahead of the curve, which is something I’ve never, frankly, experienced before. »
Who will be the cast of Avatar 3?
Rest assured, the stars of the saga will be there. So are Sam Worhington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, and Stephen Lang. We also note the arrival of Michelle Yeoh who won an Oscar for her performance in Everything Everywhere all at Once.
