Red alert for French retirees. A new scam which impersonates the Agirc-Arrco retirement pension organization is wreaking havoc. Here’s everything you need to know.
A very sneaky phishing attack
As reported Aufeminin.comthe compulsory supplementary pension fund for private sector employees will undergo several important changes this year. Scammers are therefore taking advantage of this news to send fraudulent SMS or emails. Some attacks are even carried out via a phone call.
The criminals pretend to be Agirc-Arrco and warn their target that they must urgently update their file or carry out an essential administrative operation. The idea is, as always, to recover your personal data to steal your money or access your accounts.
This attack is all the more perverse as the cybercriminals took care to imitate the organization’s logo and created a fake, fraudulent site. They even increase the pressure on those concerned by explaining to them that they risk not receiving their retirement pension. In these conditions, some people can falter and be fooled.
As Agirc-Arrco explains on his website :
Maintaining your Agirc-Arrco retirement or survivor’s pension is not linked to compliance with a means test. You do not have to submit a declaration of resources to your Agirc-Arrco pension fund except in certain specific situations of combining employment and retirement.
How to avoid the worst?
Faced with this concrete threat, you must adopt the right reflexes. Please note first of all that your pension fund will never ask you for such information by SMS, email or during a telephone conversation. You must therefore not give in, even if your interlocutor is insistent. If in doubt, log in directly to your account to check and never click on links in messages.
Very present risks
As a reminder, retirees are sometimes prime targets for malicious actors. In 2022, we told you about this 70-year-old man who had invested all his savings, i.e. 90,000 euros, in a crypto investment that seemed juicy. Unfortunately, it was a fairly cleverly designed fraud. To find out more, do not hesitate to reread our article here.
What to remember:
