What is the relationship of young French people to generative AI like ChatGPT and its rivals? To see more clearly, the Heaven agency interviewed 251 people aged 18 to 25. The results of this study, relayed by The Echoessuggest quite impressive figures. Let’s take stock.
ChatGPT, the new daily reflex
Let us point out from the outset that the Heaven agency had already carried out a survey last June, and that it wanted to see if the participants had changed their minds in a few months. The answer is clearly yes. In fact, 39% of participants use these tools on a daily basis, compared to only 21% previously. In total, 92% of men and 86% of women do it weekly.
Unsurprisingly, ChatGPT takes the lion’s share with 76% of young people using it, ahead of Snap’s MyAI and Google’s Gemini (47 and 37%). When asked about their use of these models, respondents indicated that they primarily used them to search for information (89%) or for the purposes of writing, correction, or translation.
Another very surprising trend is that 45% of respondents use these tools to chat, and 35% of participants have already used voice interactions. Quoted by the economic daily, the author of the study, Emmanuel Berne, comments as follows: “AI has established itself as a general advice interface that affects all behaviors or actions”.
Finally, and this joins a trend already observed among older users, respondents have an ambivalent vision of these technologies. Thus, 86% think that AI will improve daily life, but 68% believe that it will replace certain professions and therefore create unemployment.
ChatGPT, victim of school holidays?
This success of ChatGPT among young people is ultimately not so surprising. From 2023, we told you about this study of service traffic carried out by Similarweb in the United States. And in fact, analysts noted a drop of 10% in May, 15% in June, and 4% in July. Then, in August, the audience was up again, by 0.4% at Uncle Sam.
Commenting on these figures, the platform then explained: “One theory as to why ChatGPT’s web traffic dropped over the summer is that school was out, which could explain why the traffic trend stabilized in August as American schoolchildren returned to school. class, in greater numbers towards the end of the month ».
