During the night from Sunday to Monday, twelve Tesla vehicles were destroyed at a Tesla dealership in Plaisance-du-Touch, a town near Toulouse. 700,000 euros in damage is to be deplored. Let’s take stock.
Militant action or revenge?
After La Dépêche du Midiit is indeed a criminal fire which is at the origin of this destruction. In detail, eight cars have burned in full, while four others are very damaged. To commit this mischief, one or more people cut the fence before entering the establishment. They were then able to flee before the police arrived.
Taking up the fire was not an easy task for firefighters. They finally succeeded at the end of the morning, specify our colleagues. For the time being, an investigation is open and it will notably have to determine the mobile of this action.
Was it a militant initiative against Elon Musk and his business or an act of revenge or vandalism that is not at all linked to international news or ecology? It is currently impossible to answer this question.
Our colleagues from the regional newspaper recall, however, that in 2021 in Toulouse, a militant group had burned American brand cars. An action that had been assumed on a site where Tesla was accused of fueling “An operating system for resources and populations”. For the time being, however, no claim of this act has been identified.
An anti-musk movement
This incident comes in a very particular context, marked by a rise in tensions around Elon Musk’s political activities. In the United States, increasingly massive demonstrations are organized by left-wing groups that try to stigmatize Tesla and discourage the purchase of its vehicles.
These movements also extend to other countries, such as England, Spain and Portugal, and take place mainly without violence, but certain overflows have been reported, including attacks on the Molotov cocktail and acts of vandalism in certain concessions of the automaker.
This opposition reflects dissatisfaction with the preponderant influence taken by the billionaire in the United States government, where its controversial decisions, such as the reduction of public credits, arouse criticism of both Democrats and some support from Donald Trump.
Despite the accusations of conflict of interest and the contested efficiency of these actions, the White House remains firm in its support for the entrepreneur and his reforms. To find out more about this, do not hesitate to read our previous article here.
